Use the Stone Crusher: 1× Rock Salt → 100× Salt + 100× Sand, 600 seconds. That is one copper per Salt at a sell price of 100. The Athanor recipe (2× Charcoal Powder + 4× Quicklime Powder → 1 Salt at 33.3% + 6 Sand) exists for topping up a line, not for supply.
Both recipes
| Recipe | Device | Input → Output | Time | Use when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Salt and Sand | Stone Crusher | 1× Rock Salt → 100× Salt + 100× Sand | 600 s | You need Salt at scale |
| Salt and Sand 2 | Athanor | 2× Charcoal Powder + 4× Quicklime Powder → 1× Salt (33.3%) + 6× Sand (66.7%) | 6 s | You need a trickle and have powder spare |
The Athanor variant is fast but two thirds of its output is Sand. If you run it for Salt you will drown in sand unless the same line is already feeding glass. That is the trap: 6 s feels better than 600 s until you count the yields.
What Salt is for
- Brine — Extractor, 1× Salt → 20× Brine, 4 s. The main consumer.
- Saturn — Shaper, 600× Salt + 600× Brick + 600× Glass → 1× Saturn, 300 s. This is the relic that makes Salt a strategic stockpile: one Saturn eats 600 Salt.
Because Saturn needs 600 Salt, plan in crusher runs (six runs of 100) rather than in single crafts. Salt also stacks with Sand production — the 100 Sand side-product feeds glass and the Sand → refined sand chain, so the crusher run is never wasted.
Sell it or stock it
Salt sells for 100 copper with a 100% margin, but selling 100 of them nets 10,000 copper while one Saturn needs all 600. Unless you are done with relic crafting, keep the Salt and sell the surplus Sand instead.
